Food Truck Review: OH! Burgers

On Monday we had another new food truck stop by our office. OH! Burgers serves 2 oz mini gourmet burgers and sweet potato chips. What I love about this truck is that they source their ingredients locally as much as they can. They get their beef from Rife's Market in Grandview (which procures it from a farm in Zanesville -- my hometown!) and it is freshly ground on the truck. They also get their bread from The French Loaf in Grandview.

Their menu changes daily based on what they are able to get from the market. I tried 2 mini burgers and the Sweet Potato Chips.

Not the best picture, but it's hard to photograph burgers with lots of messy toppings, oh and at work in your cube. They were so good though and tasted much better than they look. I tried the OH! Burger (on the right) which consists of 2oz of freshly ground beef, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and mayo (I got mine minus the cheese, and added ketchup). I also tried the Wholly Guacamole Burger (on the left) which consisted of 2 oz of freshly ground beef, guacamole, queso fresco and a torilla chip (minus the cheese again :( ) The sweet potato chips were just ok, and I would have liked to see a little more seasoning on them.

Overall I would definitly try more burgers from this truck. Each burger is only $3, so you can try a couple of different ones and not be too full, or broke. Next time I would like to try the Greek Goddess which is 2oz of freshly ground beef, feta cheese, greek yogurt, cucumber, tomato, and red onion. I would also like to try the Spicy Latin Pineapple which is 2oz of freshly  beef, lettuce, and pineapple salsa. There will definitly be a next time on this truck!

Columbus Food Truck Festival

Food Trucks are really popular here in Columbus, and last Friday there was a Columbus Food Truck Festival dedicated to the food trucks of Columbus. This was actually the 2nd annual Food Truck Festival. I found out about last years festival like a week or two after it took place and was bummed I missed out on it. I have been waiting all year for this festival to take place and was so excited that I was able to attend.

Photobucket

I really had no idea what to expect. The festival started at noon and went until 10 pm. We had to work that day and weren't able to get downtown until about 7 pm. I was a little nervous that the trucks were going to start running out of food, but I was hoping that they were prepared for the festival and since there were going to be a ton of trucks that there would be enough options for everyone.

I was really shocked at how many people showed up. There were a ton of trucks, but the lines for the really popular trucks were so long! We were hoping to try a few things from different trucks, but we stood in line for about a half hour to 45 mins each for 2 different trucks and it was starting to get late, so we were bummed that we only got to try 2 trucks.

We had burgers from Street Thyme. I had actually tried this truck before one other time when they visted our work. They serve  gourmet burgers on a fast casual budget and use local meats from Carfagnas. They also serve unique flavored milk shakes (which they were out of by the time we got there).

We tried the Broad St Blue (on the left), which typically includes caramelized onions, thyme roasted tomatoes, pork belly, danish bleu cheese and a thyme aioli sauce. We also tried the Double Bacon BBQ (on the right) which typically includes applewood smoked bacon, pickled red onion, house made cider BBQ piled on two juicy patties and a toasted bun. They ran out of some of the ingredients (including the bacon!!) so I was kind of bummed that we didn't get the full experience of our sandwhiches.

The last time I tried this truck I got the State Street Standard which included sliced onion, marinated tomatoes, arugula, thyme aioli and american cheese. It was pretty amazing, so I am sure these would be super amazing if they included all of the ingredients. They were good, just not as super amazing as I remembered them to be.

We also tried the truck Tatoheads. This truck serves natural cut fries, sweet potato fries and tater tots with different seasonings and dipping sauces.

Photobucket

I was so super excited to try this truck as I have never tried it before and I am a huge fan of tater tots.

We tried the tater tots with roasted red pepper cilantro ketchup, and the natural cut fries with cajun seasoning and tatos original dipping sauce, which I believe was a combination of horseradish and ranch.

The tater tots were A-MAZ-ING! and I really loved the roasted red pepper cilantro ketchup. The natrual cut fries were also good, but I don't really care for horseradish, so I wasn't really a fan of that dipping sauce. If you do like horseradish you would really like it though. This truck was great, but we had to wait in line for almost 45 mins, and then wait another 30 mins for our order (they were really behind due to the amout of people at the festival).

Overall the festival was a lot of fun. The trucks were great, but there were just too many people which made the lines too long. There were a ton of trucks I still want to try and I am still going to try and hunt them down and try them. There are other festivals that hopefully I can find them at, and there are also a lot of trucks at the Columbus Commons on Thursday afternoons during the lunch hour, so hopefully I can stop by sometime and try out some other trucks. I'll keep sharing my favorite food truck finds as I am able to try them.

As for next year's Food Truck Festival, I will probably go again, but I might try and get down there a little earlier. It would probably be good to get there around 2 - 4ish, to miss the lunch crowd but beat the dinner crowd. Can't wait for next year!

Pitabilities Food Truck

Another great Columbus Food Truck find is the Pitabilities Food Truck. They visited our offices for lunch today, and this truck is one on my list of food truck favorites. I didn't actually get to eat from this food truck today, but below are some pics from a recent visit.

Photobucket

Pitabilities serve fresh and flavorful pitas, wraps, gyros, sandwiches, barbecue and sides.

I tried the Philly Steak Pita which included thinly sliced grilled steak, grilled onions, mozzarella cheese, bélla sauce, lettuce, tomatoes on a warm pita. I also enjoyed a side of friend pita triangle chips with garlic hummus.

This was probably one of my favorite Philly Steak sandwiches and I think what I really loved was the bélla sauce. The hummus was so fresh and creamy and the warm pita chips were addicting!

There are so many other pita sandwiches that I want to try, and I also want to try their cinna chips which are friend pita chips with a drizzle of chocolate, raspberry, vanilla or caramel sauce.

This is definitely a truck you should try!

Red Hot Food Truck

Food trucks are very hot around Columbus right now. I read in a recent article that there are approximatly 70 food trucks roaming the streets of Columbus, Ohio. Although this article examines if Columbus is at it's peak of popularity of food trucks, I totally disagree and think they are only going to get more and more popular.

Case in point, the local food trucks are currently the buzz around our work. We have about 1 or 2 food trucks that stop by our office each week and there is usually a pretty long line, especially when a new truck stops by, waiting at each truck during lunch time. This is pretty big considering we are about 20 mins north of downtown Columbus, where the biggest food truck buzz is going on. You can also find many food trucks at local festivals and at tailgating on the weekends, and there is even a food truck festival coming up in July, which I will totally be attending!

The Red Hot food truck is one of the trucks that has stopped by our offices a few times. Last week was the first time that I had tried this truck and was very happy with my lunch purchase from this truck!

Photobucket

The Red Hot food truck specializes in tex-mex-fusion and their menu items range from soups and salads to quesadillas and tacos.

Photobucket

I asked what one of their most popular items was and they recommended the Chicken and Pear Quesadilla. I also tried the Cilantro Rice as a side item.

Photobucket

This was very tasty and had a very unique flavor and texture to it. It included pieces of chicken, thin slices of pears, onions, black beans, guacamole and cheese. This quesadilla was very creamy, but it also had a slight crunch to it with the thinly sliced pears in it. It was definitely a different taste, but very good none the less.

Overall the service was great and very fast, and the prices weren't too high either. I will definitely try this truck again and am looking possibly trying the taco's next.

The Cheesy Truck

Let's talk food trucks. I have had a crazy obsession with food trucks lately. I blame it on shows like The Next Food Network Star and The Great Food Truck Race. And it seems like Columbus is also going crazy for food trucks as well. They seem to be popping up everywhere. There is a blog dedicated to street eats in Columbus. There is even a taco truck tour that a few of my friends and I have been looking into trying (which I am so excited for!).

Well the food truck craziness has hit our offices at work as well. A few weeks ago The Cheesy Truck showed up at our offices. Of course I had to try it, being my first food truck experience and all, and I hate to admit, but I stood in line for 30 mins to get a little slice of grilled cheesy goodness.

Photobucket

According to their Facebook page, The Cheesy Truck provides hand crafted grilled cheese sandwiches and sexy snacks (i.e. slut sauce). I tried the classic "Boarding School" + bacon sandwich which included cheddar cheese and bacon on white bread. It was so cheesy and the bread was so buttery and grilled to crispy perfection. Of course I had to order a side of tater tots, which were so good that I didn't even need ketchup to dip them in. I totally wanted to try some slut sauce, but unfortunately they had run out over the weekend, which kind of bummed me out.

They did have one very crazy sandwich "The Jackie O" which includes Osetra Caviar, crème fraiche and capers and cost $100 (of course it does come with a mother of pearl caviar spoon...naturally). We joked that there has to have been some drunken rich guy who has probably bought one of these as the bars were closing...ha!

The Cheesy Truck was such a success that they are now at our work every Monday during the lunch hour. We are also getting a few other food trucks to start coming to our offices, and the goal is to get a new truck for each day of the week. We are also working on getting some healthier options, and I plan to try them all. Check back soon for more food truck reviews.
